Position: Environmental Compliance Officer (SHEQ)
Department: Waste Management
Division: Governance and Compliance
Salary Offered: R 263 328 – R 341 796 per annum (plus benefits)
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or BTech in Environmental Management / Sciences or related field
Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply local government by-laws especially within the environmental management sector
2 – 3 years’ experience in a similar environment
Position Core Responsibilities:
Ensure the consistent application of Environmental and Waste Management Legislation including the relevant and applicable Council by-laws which are directly and / or indirectly dealing with Waste Management and procedures in activities and development in the municipality to ensure that service delivery requirements and objectives are met and that high levels of performance and environmental sustainability are maintained in compliance with policy and with applicable laws
Establish programmes for regular compliance monitoring, reduce negative impacts and improve the environment to ensure that applicable national and provincial legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to waste and environmental management are adhered to by the EMM and its residents
Cease, remove and remedy illegal activities which are detrimental to the environment and health of the community in order to protect the environmental and the health of the community against inappropriate / unauthorised activities and actions
Apply good governance, effective risk management and compliance with laws and regulations to ensure that the organisation pursues a systematic, organised approach to managing and implementing its strategy
Ensure that there is an efficient and effective management of allocated expenditure against approved budget for accomplishing the objectives of the division
